Here I will walk you through how to in Remnant 2 access the backrooms which is an area you need a very specific set of equipment and Archetypes to gain access to.

Before we get into the guide, I will say I have taken some information from the following website as I couldn’t figure this out myself so full credit to https://remnant2.wiki.fextralife.com/The+Backrooms for the information.

As you progress through the game you will, once you have taken down your first World Boss in one of the 3 Worlds which will then see you go to the Labyrinth which is a complex area allowing you to warp to the other 2 Worlds one you have defeated the Labyrinth Sentinel boss as well as being able to access a glitched portal in the back section of the Labyrinth off the beaten track.

If you are on your first run through Remnant 2 you will need to firstly complete the game so go through and do that which will unlock the Explorer Archetype once you bring the Annihilation boss concluding your story. Ensure you don’t re roll as you need some items from all 5 Worlds in the base game, all of which you can get as you progress through or after you finish the story.

I will give you a run down off the equipment you need and the specific sections then I will go through where and how you can acquire all of the items before taking you through to the Backrooms in the Labyrinth where you can also find and incredibly powerful secret Archetype.

So the specific gear, weapons and Archetypes you need to own are:

  • Explorer Archetype, Level 10.
  • Invader Archetype, Level 5 or above.
  • Realmwalker Armour set.
  • Void Heart Relic.
  • Ford’s Scattergun.
  • Labyrinth Staff.
  • Cube Gun.
  • Zania’s Malice Ring.
  • Anastasija’s Inspiration Ring.
  • Black Cat Band Ring.
  • Amber Moonstone Ring.
  • Leto’s Amulet.

If you already have any of the above gear / Archetypes / Weapons you are free to level them however you like ensuring you focus on levelling the Archetypes as their relevant skills need to be unlocked where you can then make your way towards:

  • The Glitching Portal.

Explorer Archetype

Requirements: Obtain the Broken Compass.

You will be awarded the Broken Compass once you have taken the Annihilation Boss down in Root Earth thus concluding the story of Remnant 2, take the Broken Compass to Wallace in Ward 13 and trade it for the Golden Compass which allows you to equip the Explorer Archetype.

You will then need to level the Explorer to level 10 which will unlock the Fortune Hunter skill you will need to select when it’s time to go towards the glitched portal.

Invader Archetype

Requirements: Obtain the Wooden Shiv.

To craft the Invader Archetype you will need the Wooden Shiv which is acquired by taking down the Bane Aberration in the Corrupted Harbor on Root Earth which you will need the Dreamcatcher melee weapon to access.

With Bane taken down and the Wooden Shiv acquired, take it to Wallace in Ward 13 where you can acquire the Serrated Root Blade thus unlocking the Invader Archetype.

Level the Invader to at least level 5 where you will unlock the Worm Hole skill which is the skill you need to select for the Invader Archetype when it’s time to go towards the glitched portal.

Realmwalker Armour Set

Requirements: Complete the game then purchase from Whispers.

The Realmwalker Armour Set is the default Armour Set for the Explorer Archetype and will be available from the start of the game upon making a new / second character.

Assuming you want to keep the character you have invested so much time and effort into, you will instead need to see Whispers who is the mute next to Cass in Ward 13 who will sell you the complete Realmwalker Armour Set which consists of the:

  • Realmwalker Beret.
  • Realmwalker Tunic.
  • Realmwalker Pantaloons.
  • Realmwalker Gloves.

The entire set will cost a few thousand scrap so get it purchased and equip it once it’s time to go towards the glitching portal.

Void Heart Relic

Requirements: Access Alepsis-Taura.

The Void Heart Relic is a Relic you can find on Alepsis-Taura, a biome, which, once unlocks will lock you out of the entire N’Erudian World for you current run through so ensure you have everything you need from N’Erud before going for the Relic.

Refer to the Void Heart relic guide for everything you need to enter the deepest section of space and acquire the Relic which you can either equip or keep it in your inventory until it’s time to go towards the glitching portal.

Ford's Scattergun

Requirements: Loot a specific tomb on Yaesha.

Ford’s Scattergun is located in a tomb at the beginning of Yaesha as long as you have the, The Red Throne as your starting point, speak with the Empress staying respectful throughout then take down the Corruptor boss without going into her majesties chambers.

With that done, go back to the Red Throne, speak with the Empress again where you will be rewarded with the Seal of the Empress Ring you can equip to access the tomb.

Refer to the Ford’s Scattergun long gun guide for everything you need to obtain Ford’s Scattergun which you can either equip, level or store in your inventory until it’s time to head towards the glitching portal.

Labyrinth Staff

Requirements: Access the hidden room and defeat Bastion.

Once you’re in the Labyrinth you will be able to make your way around to the changing portal which allows you to go to other sections of the Labyrinth that were previously inaccessible.

Look at the portal then go left along the path to the top left corner and jump off where you will land on a platform which appears below then head forward to the gap and wait for the platform to appear. It may take a minute to appear then jump across and head down where you will need to take down Bastion who is a powerful Aberration, refer to the Bastion Aberration guide if you’re struggling to bring it down or find it.

Once Bastion and all of the enemies have been defeated, if you fell in the hole make your way back around to the area again or if not head to the back wall and collect the Labyrinth Staff melee weapon.

Refer to the Labyrinth Staff melee weapon for full details and a video on what you need to do, then, with the Labyrinth Staff acquired, equip it or keep it in your inventory until it’s time to go towards the glitching portal.

Cube Gun

Requirements: Acquire the Conflux Prism.

The Cube Gun can be crafted at McCabe in Ward 13 once you have the Conflux Prism which is a reward for bringing down the Labyrinth Sentinel boss in the Labyrinth.

Refer to the Cube Gun Handgun guide for everything you need to this very powerful gun then either level it or put it in your inventory until it’s time to go towards the glitching portal.

Zania's Malice Ring

Requirements: Find the hidden room in Root Earth.

Root Earth is the fifth and final World in Remnant 2 with the first biome being the Ashen Wasteland. Fight your way through the enemies to the mini checkpoint you will come to in a building.

Head down the ramp a small amount staying hard left where you can walk around to a small opening into a room where the Zania’s Malice ring can be found.

You can equip the ring but if you choose not to, just ensure you keep it in your inventory until it’s time to make your way towards the glitching portal.

Anastasija's Inspiration Ring

Requirements: Purchase from Whispers.

You can purchase the Anastasija’s Inspiration Ring from Whispers in Ward 13. You can equip the ring or if not, keep it in your inventory until it’s time to go towards the glitching portal.

Black Cat Band Ring

Requirements: Purchase from Reggie.

The Black Cat Band Ring can be purchased from Reggie in Ward 13. Either equip the Ring or keep it in your inventory until it’s time to go towards the glitching portal.

Amber Moonstone Ring

Requirements: Purchase from Cass.

The Amber Moonstone Ring can be purchased from Cass in Ward 13. Either equip it or keep it in your inventory until it’s time to go towards the glitching portal.

Leto's Amulet

Requirements: “flop” 100 times.

The requirements for acquiring the Leto’s Amulet which is purchasable from Reggie in Ward 13 are a bit odd. You need to put your weight to over 75 which can be found in the bottom left of your character screen.

This will then cause you to “flop” as you try and dodge essentially becoming a useless feature in combat. You need to flop 100 times in total, again, thank you to https://remnant2.wiki.fextralife.com/The+Backrooms for the information or I doubt I would have even known about the Amulet.

You can easily get to over 75 weight burden by equipping the Leto Mark II Armour set which is found in the back of Ward 13 accessible through a hidden path in the Labyrinth in a storage container to the left of where you can find the Chicago Typewriter long gun which will then unlock The Agenda.

You can flop around Ward 13 where I recommend doing sets of 20 then checking in with Reggie if you have previously flopped in the game before plus it gives you a break from flopping.

Purchase then either equip or keep the Leto’s Amulet in your inventory until it’s time to make your way towards the glitching portal.

The Glitching Portal

Now that you have all of the gear, Archetypes and everything else you need, equip everything above so that your character looks like this:

With that done, go to the Labyrinth and use your best weapon to take out the few enemies as you go towards the glitching portal you will have used previously in the Labyrinth to get through to the Labyrinth Sentinel. The portal you need is the one which looks like it falls into nothing.

Wait 2 seconds from when the portal appears then drop through to a platform which spawns below. take out the 2 Specials as well as any other enemies then ensure you have the correct loadout equipped as per the image above and go to the 2nd open section on the right and look right to see the portal, where, with the correct loadout you will be able to use the Biome Portal Key (acquired through the story) to enter the Backrooms.

You can stay in the backrooms for a total of 90 seconds until the game will kick you out so move quickly if you want to find the Strange Box which unlocks the very powerful Archon Archetype.

You are free to re enter the backrooms as you wish just ensure you have the required loadout equipped. If you get close to the doorway without the correct loadout equipped you will need to go away from the portal, equip the gear then go back.
