The 38 best rooftops in Shibuya (2024)

Shibuya Sky is a 360° open-air observation deck situated on the top of the Shibuya Scramble Square skyscraper, which is Tokyo's tallest building at 230 meters high. The observation deck consists of two floors: the sky gallery on the 45th floor and the sky stage on the 46th floor. The sky gallery is an enclosed area with cafes, bars, souvenir shops, and artistic video installations that showcase modern Shibuya.

This is a must visit place in Japan! ❤Purchase your ticket online so you don't have to fall in line for ticket. Ticket online is ¥1800 each, payment available in convenience stores and credit cards. The place is superb, access to the 360° view of eastern Japan. The head of Mt Fuji is also visible here 😍Best time to enter is 3pm because it is not crowded yet. You can enjoy until night with the lights of the city.Wear jackets and coat because the wind blows colder during this season.Foods are also available and you can enjoy it with the best view ❤It is just a walk from Shibuya Station, so no worries about transportation.

Beautiful view. I suggest to come during sunset time (around 3.30 pm during winter) and you can stay until night. There is indoor deck as well. You are not allowed to bring camera without straps as all of your stuffs have to be put in a locker. Don't worry you only need 100 yen to deposit and it will be returned after you take back your stuffs. There are too many people obviously, but all in all you still get a chance to enjoy the view.

While the insanity of the scramble is infuriating at best, once you make it to the Shibuya Sky Observation Deck, you are in for a treat. The views of the surrounding Tokyo cityscape are breathtaking! From Tokyo Tower, Skytree, to Mount Fuji (on a clear day) this is one of the spots to be in Tokyo for sunset! This place gets really crowded prior to sunset as folks are here for that show and patience needs to be packed as you will run and not rude foreigners jumping in front of you, kids running around screaming, and just overall public annoyances. We picked a spot and sat for a couple of hours waiting for Tokyo to light up. It was an amazing thing to see and highly recommended. There is a cafe and shop at the top inside;however, just before sunset most things were sold out due to the crowd. Women should plan their attire appropriately as it can be extremely windy. Recommend shorts under skirts/dresses unless you are going for the Marilyn Monroe pose because it will happen. No lose items, bags, or hats are allowed and 100 yen deposit coin lockers are available for use. You can also grab a shoulder bag for your phone or other small items as well. Be warned, things will blow away and they will ask you to store such items.Overall, 100% worth the insanity.

Simply a must do while you are in Tokyo! The elevator is fast, and it's got a monitor on the top with a view to see the actual speed. On the top, there is the scenic view of the City, which is breathtaking, especially during a sunny day and a large area could be seen.We had some drinks and snacks beside the window with a great view, and the quality of the food was not the best but was okay.

2023 September 4.5★Adults 2200¥Elementary 1000¥When it's busy, it's busy! But they do a great job with managing the crowd with timed tickets.Going up is the elevator, you'll feel like your launching up a tunnel.Get to the top, there's a place where you must (it's mandatory) put your belongings (only your cell phone is allowed). Lockers are FREE to use, though a 100¥ coin must be inserted. While the view here is already spectacular, there's a separate escalator that takes you up another level. At this level, there's an indoor display, a bar and views of the city from inside.Going up to the top, there's lounges, a helicopter pad and a photo spot. This is where they will take a picture of you professionally (1500¥for a digital copy isn't bad) and they will give you 30 seconds to take your own.Going back down, expect the usual souvinear shop and a place to purchase your photo.Overall, a nice place to visit if you haven't been. While I'm sure that you could just go up and down and just look around, expect to spend at least 2 to 2.5 hours here from entry if your taking lots of pictures.

A must-go spot in Shibuya. The view is amazing and the rooftop area is a perfect spot to rest after half day of shopping. The bar&coffee shop in the indoor area is cheap. You can have a nice afternoon tea or happy hour drinks here. You can easily spend few hours here.P.S. remember to reserve the ticket few weeks before, the best time-slot is on or before sunset.

This tower has a magnificent view on the rooftop. You can take very nice photo with 360 degree view. Before going outside to the open air rooftop, you will be asked to put your bags inside the locker, it’s free so no need to worry about it. There is also a lot of staff that will guide you and even maintain the safety of everyone there. The sunset view there is incredible. If the weather is good, you can even see Mount Fuji from far away. Buying tickets 30 days before the day you go is recommended. All the good tickets(3.30pm-5.30pm) will be sold out in a flash, so be sure to grab them on time.

Booked an online ticket but the waiting line at the entrance was not long. 3 pm onwards is a nice time to take pictures. Recommended to come with friends to help you take photos (they only allow phones and wallets up here).

One of the newest attractions in Tokyo, which gives you the priceless view of the whole of Tokyo city!Greatly recommend this new attraction to anyone, I believe the best time will be in the evening before sunset so you can enjoy both day/night view.We arrived pretty late at 7pm but the view is still amazing! Do take note if you are going during colder months, bring that extra jacket as it can get extremely chilly up there!

It’s a great place to hangout and enjoy a sweeping view of the city. The issue we ran into was too many tourists and everyone wanted to take that poster shot and some spend minutes to pose and check and repose. We waited for 10 minutes and the line barely move so we gave up. There should be time limit at each photo spot. Also it seems like you can’t have anything outside of your pocket. I had two lens with me and security asked me to put one into my jean pocket, it was a sizable lens so I found it odd.

The best observatory! Views are so clear and such vast space in the roof top. Lucky to be blessed with good weather. The restaurant/bar downstairs even had great views. Too bad we couldn't wait for sunset to night time, it was highly recommended. But oh well, maybe we will come back again here. We loved the whole experience.

It’s a must visit if you come to Tokyo. The best time to visit is during sunset but you will need to book far in advance for that. But if you don’t care a few days before should be fine. You can’t take anything but your phone with you up, but there are lockers provided to put your things in. The best spot has an additional queue and you can expect to wait 30 minutes for your turn. Absolutely amazing spot.

The view is amazing. The 360-degree terrace can let you overlook the whole Shibuya-Tokyo.It has two levels. The lower level is indoor and offer some exhibitions about the building for tourist information. It is very windy outdoor on the upper level so there is also free locker for you to store your belongings.Staff is really nice and friendly. They also set up one corner with photography services so the staff photographer will help you take a photo and then you can choose to buy it or not after the visit. It gets quite crowded over the weekend and it will be better if you can reserve your ticket in advance.

A very beautiful place overlooking Tokyo. The surprise I got was being able to see Mountain Fuji very clearly, I was lucky to be here on a clear blue sky day.I got last minute tickets on a weekday morning - i think someone cancelled last minute and all slots in the foreseeable week was sold out. Upon arrival, there are no walk in tickets available too, a staff stands with a sign that says all tickets sold out today. Get there right before your allotted time and get in with no waiting time.Upstairs there is a restaurant, bar overlooking the views, souvenir shop, gallery, and of course the outdoors deck with glass corners for your photo op or just to simply enjoy the view. All bags must be stowed in the provided lockers and only phone allowed with person.

Despite getting lost and almost missing our scheduled time, we managed to arrive just 2 minutes before they moved on to the next group. Entry into the building took an additional 5-10 minutes due to inclement weather, resulting in the closure of the rooftop. The staff, being polite, set proper expectations. After a 30-minute wait, the rooftop finally opened, revealing an astonishing view. Though slightly crowded, the scene was still amazing, akin to a moment from an anime movie, captured in one of our best pictures.

What an incredible view. We just missed sunset but it did not disappoint at night time. Reserve your ticket early!!! When we arrived it was sold out to passers by, and there was a huge queue, but it went really fast and was well organised. Once you are at the top there are plenty of opportunities for great photos. We went on a Friday night and still got good photos. You will need 100¥ for a locker for your bag so make sure to bring that. Literally all you could see was city in every direction as far as the eye could see.

James B — Google review

Even as someone who has lived in Tokyo for some time, this was still an amazing experience. You’ll get a full panoramic view of the city and Mt Fuji. Just before sunset is probably the best time. Note you should book before going. They have a professional photographer taking photos there too but personally would give it a miss.

Daniel K — Google review

During the day, it’s a beautiful open space with a small bar. There are nets to sit on outside as well as a gallery area indoors where there are benches and small bars/food vendors. The elevator experience is also really cool with lights and sounds to give you a feeling of going up into space. I would recommend coming up here during the night so that the sun isn’t so harsh and you can see Tokyo lit up.

RK — Google review

Really recommend going but you have to book the tickets in advance! Amazing views of Tokyo and the sky deck is so fun, there’s music and a light show. One downside if there’s a lot of people obviously and you gotta wait a long time to take pics in the corners.

Japan’s largest rooftop observation space - Shibuya Sky is no doubt one of the points around Tokyo where you will get a most stunning views of the whole city.I would like to share few tips while you plan for this place- Online pre-booking of tickets is most recommended 🎟️🎫- Most of them would love to enjoy the day and night view so the tickets around sunset gets booked faster. 🏙️🌆- Tripods, selfie stick , bags and eatables are not allowed to the rooftop. There is locker available for ¥100 refundable deposit which can be used to place luggage- There will be long queues at all the corners of the Roof top for clicking pictures 😅- There is a paid photographer at the most popular spot. We can buy the photo if we wish to.Weather is highly uncertain and at anytime if there is lightning/rainfall they will immediately suspend the rooftop entry.

Amazing views for an amazing price. The atmosphere is amazing and there is a great range of spots to take photos and experience. We opted for the ticket that includes a seat and drinks which was the best part of the visit. The chance to have a private area to sit, drink, and take photos is amazing. It's also out of Japan's hot sun which is a huge plus! One thing to note is that the ticket time is only for entry, not for when your seat is available. After you enter you have a comfortable amount of time to make your way to the roof.

I did a night time visit and was in awe at how pretty Tokyo is at night. Buy tickets in advance, they become available 4 weeks prior to your desired date. The wind can be a bit strong so definitely take a jacket if it's a cooler day/night. There some things you're not allowed to take onto the roof but they do have lockers that require a ¥100 deposit to use and you get your ¥100 back once you return the key.

Interesting place to take a picture of sunset... Perfect.Going this place at Februari, still have weather at 4-6 degrees so its very cold, so prepare yourself, and very windy up there.Buy your ticket before. And make sure to come earlier. Not allowed to bring tripod, monopod, suitcase etc that will be fly away at top. But there is safety box before you Going up.

Tri H — Google review

Securing tickets four weeks ahead proved to be a smart move as many tourists were turned away due to sold-out tickets. We lucked out with gorgeous weather, enjoying a stunning sunset, spotting Mt. Fuji, and taking in a killer night view of the city. The panoramic views from Shibuya Sky are spectacular, offering a unique and awe-inspiring perspective of Tokyo. I highly recommend planning ahead and grabbing tickets early for an unforgettable experience with breathtaking views.

We’ve been there around 3:30pm till 7:00pm, seen the views during daytime till dark after sunset. Cannot really recommend specific time as better, it was all great and different. There is a very nice cafeteria and bar with some snacks so very convenient if you have kids. The souvenir shop is very nice as well.Staff are very friendly and helpful, it gets very busy during exit especially at high season like April.Make sure to get few coins for the lockers.

Albert N — Google review

Simply breathtaking views of Tokyo. Be sure to buy your tickets in advance. If you want to go up at night, you should even buy them a month in advance..Please note that all items except cell phones or cameras must be locked in lockers. You will get your money back later..I can highly recommend this experience when visiting Tokyo.

Fantastic 360 view with beautiful rooftop view of the entire city. It's huge and occupies the entire roof of the building. There are coaches and grass and deck up there. Plus coffee shop and souvenir shop. Amazing views

Yuval K — Google review

Overall such a beautiful sight to see. The view is stunning and majestic especially when the sun starts to set down and you can see the Tokyo night lights slowly emerging. The lounge area was comfortable though very crowded. The cafe was okay it had everything you’d need. Sadly for us it was one of the colder days in Japan and we were freezing and the lines were also huge for the photo spots. Definitely recommend but book the tickets in advance.

Worth the visit! The view is breathtaking and offers great picture spots. I recommend going around 17:30 so you can see the sun going down, offering an amazing and orange view from the sky. Personally, I prefer to go during day time as I feel the view during night time is not as nice as during the day. But anyhow, make sure to book your tickets beforehand as it sells out really fast.

Victoria L — Google review

Great experience! We booked this about a month out because of its popularity so tickets sell out quick. Make sure you bring a jacket and 100 yen to rent a locker (you get the 100 yen back). You can’t bring anything to the top but your phone, a camera with a neck strap and a jacket. It’s really important that you bring your jacket because it’s cold up top. Went on a Thursday afternoon got there at 4:15 stayed until 7 and watched the sunset. It can be crowded so make sure you bring your patience with you.

This is such a beautiful , peaceful experience. I have never been in the daytime, but I can say that going at night is worth it. You can see the whole city from up here and beyond that. It'd a peaceful experience really makes you appreciate life and Japan as a whole. We loved our time up here. If you are visiting the area, try and get tickets to come and enjoy the beautiful city lights and architecture.

Must see:New observation deck + food and shopping area. Get tickets in advanced for the deck, it’s a great place to people watch, view the city, lounge around.Though if you’re not able to reserve a ticket, the shopping and eating areas are still a great way to view the city. Tons of food options and places to shop.Loved spending time here, I’d allot 2-3 hours maybe more if you just want roam and chill.

Jessica T — Google review

Excellent view of Tokyo skyline. We went at night and it was fabulous. You have to book tickets in advance. I booked a month out and it sold out on the day. It’s all timed entry. Don’t think you can rock up and walk in. Sunset times sell out first so if that’s what you want book early! It freezing cold at night when we went up May 2024 at 840pm. The wind was bad and it was so cold so keep that in mind. As with most things there are lines and crowds and hard to get a clear photo without people in the way. But still a fabulous way to get a great view of Tokyo. Highly recommend m.
