What's new for Windows 11, version 23H2

Windows 11, versions 22H2and 23H2 share a common core operating system and an identical set of system files. Because of this, the release notes for Windows 11, versions 22H2 and 23H2 will share an update history page. Each release page will contain a list of addressed issues for 22H2 and 23H2. Note that 23H2 will always contain the improvements for the supported editions of 22H2. However, the supported editions of 22H2 will not contain the improvements for 23H2. The update history page will provide you with the build numbers for 22H2 and 23H2. This will make it easier for support to assist you if you encounter issues.

This new update will be cumulative with all the newly announced features including Copilot in Windows (in preview)plus additional changes.

NoteCopilot in Windows will start to roll out in preview to select global markets as part of our latest update to Windows 11. The initial markets for the Copilot in Windows preview include North America and parts of Asia and South America. It is our intention to add additional markets over time.

Chat is now Microsoft Teams (free) and is pinned by default to the taskbar. When you click or tap to open Microsoft Teams, a mini communications experience makes it possible to chat, call, and meet with people in just a click or two. Its compact size makes it easy to place the window anywhere on the desktop. This allows you to passively check on your conversations as you browse the web or connect with your communities.

  • You can send and receive SMS messages within Microsoft Teams. Also, you can link your Android Phone using Link to Windows. This lets you access SMS and share meeting links using your regular phone number.

  • A new People experience makes finding people relevant to you easy on Teams. Because Teams syncs with your Outlook and Skype contacts, you can connect to them whenever you want.

In addition to these new Microsoft Teams (free) features, there are some changes to the way you manage your applications.Under All apps on the Start menu, Windows 11 system components will show a “system” label. Currently, the page for managing these components is in System Components listed in Settings > Apps > Installed Apps. This is now on its own page in Settings > System > System Components.
